Faithful and True
Listen here.
Greetings, friends, welcome to my Live to Love blog for August, 2026. Before we get started, I hope you’ll share the blog with your friends and invite them to follow my daily Live to Love Scripture encouragement podcast which you can find on iTunes and Spotify. Also, I invite you to pray about supporting Elijah Ministries. Much of our ministry, especially internationally, is offered free. Obviously there is a cost for free, but we trust God to provide if He opens the doors for us to minister with the message He has given us. If God has provided abundantly for you and you have a generous heart to share the gospel and call men to turn their hearts to God and their families, then I would be honored to partner with you for the glory of God. You’ll receive a monthly ministry report and thank you. By the way, if you would like to join my prayer team, just shoot me an email at norm@spiritofelijah.com. Not let’s get started on this month’s blog. My prayer for us is that we would be
Faithful and True
Have you ever considered the inseparable connection between truth and faithfulness? Let’s do!
The Meaning of Amen
First, ponder a word you’ve probably used at least once today if you are a praying person. The word is amen. The Hebrew word for amen is the root word for both truth and faithfulness. We typically close our prayers with Amen, but do we understand what we are saying to God? When we say, amen, we are declaring that we trust God to be faithful and make our request come to pass, let it become a reality, let it be the truth. As we read these verses from Psalms, notice how the amen gives the blessing of God greater meaning?
Psalms 41:13
Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen.
Psalms 72:19
And blessed be His glorious name forever; and may the whole earth be filled with His glory. Amen, and Amen.
Psalms 89:52
Blessed be the LORD forever! Amen and Amen.
Psalms 106:48
Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting even to everlasting. And let all the people say, “Amen.” Praise the LORD!
Let’s do the same thing with Romans 11:36.
“For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen.”
We can trust God to be faithful to bring about His blessing and glory in everything because it is the truth. God is worthy of all blessing, honor, and glory because all things are from Him, through Him, and to Him. Do you get the connection between truth and faithfulness?
Can I get an “amen”?
Sometimes when we hear a truth from Scripture or hear the glory of God declared in a sermon, we get so excited about the reality of what is said that we respond with “Amen!” Why do we do that? It’s because the reality or the truth encourages and thrills our hearts to the point that we can’t remain silent. The truth proclaimed to a faithful heart elicits a prayer to God to faithfully bring it into reality. Do you get the connection between truth and faithfulness?
Faithful and true
Jesus is a faithful and true friend. He is the living Word, faithful and true. If He who is faithful and true said something, then His words are also faithful and true. This must have been very significant for the apostle John because in The Revelation of Jesus Christ, he wrote,
“To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: The Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God, says this: “ (Revelation 3:14)
“And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war” (Revelation 19:11).
“And He who sits on the throne said, ‘Behold, I am making all things new.’ And He said, ‘Write, for these words are faithful and true’” (Revelation 21:5).
“And he said to me, ‘These words are faithful and true’; and the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, sent His angel to show to His bond-servants the things which must soon take place” (Revelation 22:6).
When someone speaks the truth, they are faithful and can be trusted. We know God’s word is true, therefore it is a faithful foundation for our faith and practice. Because God’s Word is faithful and true it deserves a resounding and heart-felt Amen! Do you get the connection between truth and faithfulness?
Truth within makes one faithful
When there is dissonance between what is in the inner man and what is displayed outwardly, we call that hypocrisy. What’s true on the outside isn’t true on the inside. It’s the exact opposite of being faithful and true. After King David’s hypocrisy was exposed by Nathan, we get an up-close and personal account of his repentance. In Psalms 51:6, David revealed what he had seen about God and his own heart. “Behold, You desire truth in the innermost being, and in the hidden part You will make me know wisdom.” If we have truth in our hearts, we will know wisdom which will make us faithful. David had acted unfaithfully toward God, his kingdom, his family, his “mighty man,” Uriah, one of his top thirty valiant men (2 Sam. 23:39), and Bathsheba, Uriah’s wife. Why? Because he did not have truth in his innermost being. Hidden from man was a lustful, idolatrous, selfish, murderous heart. But it was not hidden from God. So God orchestrated the circumstances that exposed the hypocrisy within. Why did God do that? He “made” David see the truth—what God saw—so we could learn from him. God desires truth in the innermost being of our hearts so that we can walk faithfully before Him and in this world. Truth within makes one faithful.
May we be faithful and true
I hope you now get the connection between truth and faithfulness. The reason this is important to us is that I’ve discovered that we can’t faithfully love others with Jesus if we’re not living the truth on the inside. What is the truth God desires in the innermost being? The truth that Jesus is the truth and the life. He is our life, and that’s what God sees to be true about us. We died with Him and were raised with Him—by God’s doing (1 Cor. 1:30). He is the vine, and we are the branches, created to carry the fruit of His life, and that fruit is love (John 15:4-8). When we abide in Him, we live the truth within, which then makes us faithful husbands, wives, fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, friends, and servants of Jesus Christ. May we be faithful and true. Amen!
